Oh how I love this little girl. We had no idea how much we needed her in our life until she arrived. Even while I was pregnant, we still didn’t get it. But, as every mom will tell you, the moment they laid her on my chest, it was all over. Our heart was hers. Even on her worst of days, she’s still our everything. That moment feels like yesterday. It’s hard to believe it was almost 20 months ago! Boy does time fly now!
It was Kyle’s idea to take these photos. He wanted some updated pictures of her, because she’s changed so much since her one year shoot. Probably the biggest advantage of being a Raleigh lifestyle photographer is that I can update her photos whenever I want. I learned very quickly on this warm afternoon a few weeks ago, that just because I can update her photos doesn’t mean she’ll let me.
All day long she was a happily little toddler. We put her down for her afternoon nap, and had high hopes for our pictures right after. She thought differently. She woke up in her feisty little toddler mood, and that was it. We decided to try anyway, because we can always retake them, right? I pulled out the camera, and she screamed “picture!” Which in her world, means show me photos on the back of the camera, let me push all the buttons, and basically let me do whatever I want with your camera or else I’ll scream. Can anyone else relate?
We decided taking turns distracting her and photographing each other with her was our best chance at getting anything decent. It involved LOTS of tickling, singing, running around, spinning her in circles, throwing her in the air, anything to keep her from trying to take the camera out of our hands. Which is actually perfectly us right now. Playtime (aka distraction) is our main game.
I love these photos because they’re so us. They’re so Ada with her sassy little attitude, pony tail and boots, and silly laughs turned screams from one second to the next. We decided to keep these as our official 18 month photos and not do a retake, because we love our life. Imperfectly perfect just the way it is.
