I’m that mom. Isla is only a few weeks away from turning two, and I’m finally sharing her cake smash from her first birthday. If I used emojis on here now would be a perfect time for a face palm one. So, I’m just going to pull out the most cliche statement ever…better late than never, right?

In this case, I’m going to say yes, it’s better late than never! Because look how cute my little girl was on her first birthday?!!! A year later, and I’m still swooning over her cuteness. Also, crying over how big she’s gotten, but that’s another story entirely.

I had the best time designing and photographing this for her. I’m not big on planning elaborate birthday parties. More of a cake and cook out in the backyard type of mom. Which is exactly what we did for her. No decorations, except this. I had this set up inside so we could bring her back in for, what in my opinion is, the cutest cake smash ever.

It all started with that little outfit. I found it online (probably through an Instagram ad if I’m being honest), then found a headband to match, which then inspired the backdrop (which I made!), and then she had to have the adorable little naked cake from my favorite Raleigh bakery! One thing led to another, and it all came together like this, and now I have a whole new respect for my florist friends.
