Out of all the things that can go wrong on a wedding day, the one thing you never expect is a hurricane. Especially on October 8th. Raleigh weddings are supposed to, and typically do, have gorgeous weather without a drop of rain that time of year.
As the forecast rolled in for Caitlin & Mike’s Sutherland wedding, it only kept getting worse and worse. For a minute, there was a small window of hope that it would hold off until the day after, but as hurricanes do, it changed it’s mind. With rain gear on and a rain plan in place, we packed up and headed out to photograph their hurricane wedding.
It could have been awful. The venue could have flooded, they could have lost power, and their wedding could have been ruined. But that wasn’t the case for them. The vendors rallied, and out of it came one seriously gorgeous, indoor, candlelit wedding. I kept telling Caitlin that I think what they ended up with was so much more intimate and gorgeous than anything they could have planned themselves. It was romantic and full of so much emotion, and no doubt a day they’ll never forget.
Hurricane Matthew and all, we were so glad to be part of their day. Caitlin & Mike have a genuine love that’s stood the test of time since high school! It was a honor to document the day they’ve been waiting for, even if it ended up being a completely different day than they could have ever expected!
Huge thanks to these vendors for showing up and rallying around a rain plan that created a wedding like no other!
