This wedding was everything to us for two reasons. The first being, it filled that dream of photographing a New England wedding (although, we’d still love to photograph a coastal Maine wedding)! And as the leaves were peaking, so double bonus there! But even more special than that, it was my cousin’s wedding! The most caring, genuine hearted, loving person in the world. More like an extra sister than a cousin, and truly one of my most favorite people. I could talk for days about how much I love her, and I did in their Washington, DC engagement photos post.
I went into this day thinking I prepped for the emotions on my end. I’m a crier, hard core, so I knew it was going to be a doozy. But, whew, I’m not sure anyone could have prepared for it all. It all started when it was time for the father-daughter moment. These always get me, but this time it was family! Then, when Steph & Spencer saw each other during the first look. That will forever be a favorite of favorite first looks. The pure joy. You’ll just have to see.
The moment that takes them all though was Spencer’s big surprise. For their first dance, they’d selected a song by a duo they’d fallen in love with over the years. It’s one that spoke to them and to their relationship, and was such a perfect choice in a first dance song. Instead of having the DJ play it like every other first dance out there, Spencer flew them in from Tennessee to New Hampshire to perform it live. I can’t speak for Spencer, but I’m going to guess that Steph’s reaction was everything he’d hoped for and more. Romantic doesn’t even begin to describe the gesture.
Steph & Spencer, you didn’t have to ask us. You could have asked anyone else. Yet, you did, and we are forever grateful that you wanted us to be part of your day in this fashion. We love you guys more than we have words. We’re incredibly honored you chose us. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. We wish you two the happiest of marriages. We hope you keep surprising each other and keep trying to show how much you love in unique ways. Congratulations!!
