Breaking Ground

Our Life

Wake Forest wedding photographer house update.

It’s about time we updated with our house progress!!! We didn’t mean to go MIA on this, there just hasn’t been much to share quite yet. Not to worry, things are about to start moving over here, so we’ll have lots of updates coming your way!

In the meantime, we’re actually supposed to start building this week! By we, I mean the contractor and his crew, and by building I mean digging a hole. We met with him last week for our builder/buyer meeting, and he said as soon as the rain cleared out over the weekend and he could get a crew to our lot, he was going to break ground. WOOHOO!!!

We’re completely done with the decision making, so now we get to wait and watch. This whole process has amazed us. The fact that we’re literally done with decisions is crazy. I thought we’d be making them as we go along, not do everything up front. It made sense once they explained that things can take a while to come in once ordered, so they have us choose everything first. That way it can be on its’ way while they build. I just wasn’t expecting that.

Pretty much we have a kick butt downstairs and very basic upstairs. There were a few things I wasn’t going to budge on, and one of those was the downstairs flooring. It’s one of those things that you don’t really re-do in your house, so I wanted it done right to begin with. We are getting the most gorgeous 7 1/2 wide wood plank floor you’ve ever seen. It was love at first sight. Seriously, I’m drooling thinking about that beautiful floor.

Another was my kitchen. We decided to build the kitchen last in the design process because we wanted to see how much room we had in the budget. We chose to simplify other areas of the house to have more available for the kitchen. Like the tile. I honestly didn’t like any of the tile choices even the expensive ones. So Kyle & I agreed that we shouldn’t waste money on something we didn’t really like anyway, and chose one of the 3 standard tiles for the bathrooms. Best of the worst type of situation. Maybe we’ll actually like it, or maybe one day we’ll change it. For the time being it’ll be basic, and we’re ok with that.

It’ll be fun to watch this all come together before our eyes. They’re estimating our closing date will be in September, so not too long now!!! As of last night, when I begged my sister to drive by the lot and take this picture for me, all they’ve done is slightly dug the outline and staked the property. Soon they’ll be moving dirt, and putting up walls. I can’t wait!
