World, meet Cason Riley. This little guy came into our lives on January 3rd and stole the heart of our entire family. A little over 2 weeks new now, and I swear, he gets cuter by the day! He’s changed so much since these pictures when he was 4 days new, and he’s actually starting to stay awake a little now! All he’s done these first few weeks is sleep. I keep telling my sister to enjoy it, because one day soon that switch is going to flip and she’s going to miss the days when he slept through anything. He slept so hard through his newborn lifestyle portraits that I actually called it, and said let’s try again once he’s a full week old for some awake pictures. Which we got a few days later!

My sister and brother-in-law have settled so well into their new roles as parents. Of course they’re not getting as much sleep as they used to, and life moves at a different pace, but they’re so natural with him!! With all the babysitting they’ve done for Ada over the last year and a half, Shane has somehow managed to get out of changing a single diaper! He’s now been well initiated into the world of parenting with several episodes that required wardrobe changes for both him, and Cason, and the wall behind the changing pad to be washed, haha. Parenting at it’s finest!!

You might remember from their maternity post, that big sister Emma was quite excited about her little brother-to-be. She’s warmed right up to him, completely opposite of how our dogs treated Ada, but exactly what we expected from her. She’s patient, loving, and squeezes in a doggie kiss any chance she can!

Auntie A.J. is head over heels in love. Actually, Cason has all three of us over here completely wrapped around his tiny little finger. Any time Ada sees Carter she screams BABY, and won’t stop until she shows him Cason. Then she squeals and waves her hands around in something that can only be described as pure joy. I can’t wait to watch those two grow up together.

I am so excited to share his newborn portraits! My heart leaps just looking at them! Besides the sheer adorableness that is Cason, I’m in love with his adorable whale nursery!!!!! Almost everything in there was handmade by someone in our family! Shane made the bookshelf, Carter made the whale sign over the crib, I painted the dresser, Mom made the quilt and curtains, and Carter & I together made the whale mobile. So proud of that cute little boy’s whale nursery!
