Ada’s Big Girl Room

Our Life

Finishing up Ada’s big girl room has been the most amazing project! I want to move in there myself!!! I went into it having no clue what I wanted. All I knew was we had this vintage bed frame that’s been in my family for a long time, and I kind of sort of wanted floral wall paper. That was as far as my creativity stretched.

So I reached out to my dear friend Steph over at Stephanie Tidwell Interiors for her big girl room expertise! Little shout out to her, if you need a designer, she’s your girl!!!! She has done two rooms for me now (see the other one here), along with about every random corner in my house that I didn’t know how to style! I’ve also photographed several of her finished nurseries (see here and here), and recently one huge house project that I can’t wait to share when I get caught up blogging! She’s seriously gifted with interior design, and I’m so thankful to have a friend like her to guide me through these projects!

Steph came over with a plan in mind, and we put her vision into action. Some of it required some ingenuity. Like the valence and draping above her bed. We got creative with that one and ended up building it ourselves! My step-dad did the valence. Mom and I covered it, and Mom made the draping and matching curtains! I painted some curtain rods I had laying around, found a vintage mirror from my friends over at Greenhouse Picker Sisters. Then completed the room with Ada’s nursery chair and a new dresser, nightstands and decor pieces.

My favorite detail though is that vintage bed. It’s been in my family for a very long time, and I have so many fond memories of playing on it as a child. When my dad offered it to us a few years ago we jumped on the chance to have it in our house! The only rule is we have to offer it to one of my other sisters if we ever stop using it. I’m ok with that! I was thinking of painting it, but Steph encouraged me to leave it as is for Ada’s big girl room, and I’m so glad she did!! I absolutely love that green and brass with the wallpaper!

Ada’s favorite details are her wallpaper and unicorn. She tells us daily that she loves her flowers and thanks us for them. It’s the sweetest little comment that we never tire of hearing. She asks anyone who comes over if they want to see her big girl room and is so proud to show it off! She squeals when she points out her unicorn and the picture of her kissing baby sister. My heart melts every single time.

We moved her in to her big girl room two days ago, and it’s been quite a success! We did add rails to the bed since it’s so high, because mama gets worried about things like that! And I may or may not have cried her first night in there, because she’s not supposed to grow up!!! But overall, it’s gone really, really well! Sadly, we’ve already had to take that seriously gorgeous light fixture down and replace it with a fan. We quickly realized that, it gets really hot in there. It’s just not fair to make her sleep in heat like that. So if anyone wants to buy a beautiful sputnik lamp, I’ve got one for sale!!

Now it’s time to go re-prep the nursery for a newborn, since we’re only 8 weeks away!!! That’s this weekend’s project, and hopefully we can knock that one out pretty quickly!

Thanks for coming to see Ada’s room! We’re so proud of it and so happy to share it on the blog!!!
